Set on Miami Beach, 300 Alton Road, this design studio project called for the design of a housing complex that combined 75% social housing apartments (studio-1 bedroom) and 25% luxury apartments. Working with a partner, we designed for a "utopia" where these two social classes could live separately, but mingle daily. Our design consisted of two separate buildings, an elegant bar building for social housing, and a Miami art deco style tower for luxury apartments. To "bridge the gap" between the luxury apartments and social housing, we designed shared amenities located underneath the luxury apartments, to which social housing patrons could access via bridges connecting the two buildings. Taking inspiration from Rem Koolhaas' "De Rotterdam" we aimed to add to the Miami skyline by altering the height of each building in the complex.
